How Can JEPCO Help Your Mining Project?
As a Salt Lake City-based EPC firm, we know mining. In fact, we’ve had the privilege of helping mining and industrial clients in the western United States relieve their pain points for over a decade. Whether we’re designing new facilities or revitalizing outdated systems, our number one goal is to support our clients in optimizing their facilities and achieving long-term success. Here are a few of our notable mining and industrial projects.
Utah’s First Lithium Carbonate Plant
The JEPCO team was honored with the opportunity to help create Utah’s first lithium carbonate plant in 2019. The largest magnesium producer in North America selected JEPCO to perform the detail design for the project. Upon completion, the plant was named the 2019 Energy/Industrial Project of the Year by the Associated General Contractors of Utah. We were also officially recognized as the lead design firm, the structural engineer and the civil engineer of the plant.
Today, the plant processes 10,000 tons of high-grade lithium per year from magnesium byproduct and produces 99.9% pure lithium carbonate. Lithium carbonate is used to fuel batteries in electric vehicles, cell phones, laptops and other electronic devices. Our team is humbled and grateful to have contributed to such a monumental project, especially in our home state.
A New Sulfur Storage & Injection System
When a client’s sulfur storage and injection system had been shut down for 20 years, JEPCO came in to help. The system had been riddled with plugging, leaks and corrosion, and they needed a new system to utilize their low-sulfur ore. Due to our sulfur expertise, we were able to help the mine increase its bottom line by creating a new sulfur injection system and using sulfur ore for an additional source of gold recovery.
The scope included redesigning and rebuilding the sulfur storage pit, designing natural draft venting to heat the vapor space, installing new boilers and steam controls, and providing startup assistance. Whether you’ve struggled with a problem in your facility for days or decades, the JEPCO team will deliver a high-quality solution with great urgency.
Conveyor Transfer E-House Replacement
A large metal and mining client needed to replace an existing conveyor transfer e-house, and they called on JEPCO to provide the detail engineering services for the project. Our team installed VFD control of the conveyors and upgraded their central automation system to Contrologix, the standard automation platform used within their facility. We also performed their factory accepted test, taking various trips to the e-house manufacturer’s facility to verify their wiring and routing.
We also fully replaced their equipment and electrical so the client can stay at the top of their game. The JEPCO team thoroughly enjoys collaborating with clients and equipment manufacturers to help achieve our clients’ goals.
Acidulation Circuit Storage Expansion
JEPCO was chosen to provide engineering and detail design services for a large mining project. The main goal of the project was to add a fourth tank to the client’s existing carbon steel and stainless steel tanks to maintain autoclave feed rate while their grinding circuit was down for maintenance and provide additional storage capacity for their acidulation circuit. The JEPCO team utilized process, mechanical, civil/structural, electrical and instrumentation engineering in order to complete this project.
From creating a design package for permitting purposes to developing a capital cost estimate, we always appreciate the opportunity to utilize a variety of engineering and project management disciplines to solve a client’s problem.
Each project JEPCO undertakes is driven by the challenges our clients face. From restoring functionality to long-dormant systems to increasing storage capacity, our work is about helping clients find the solutions they need to save time and money. Now, how can we help you?
